Pop-Up POTA

While the rest of the country basks in the warmth of an aging summer, here in San Francisco we are treated 56°F, west winds gusting to 25 mph, and fog right down to the surface.

This map shows that QRP CW works!

If you wait for nice weather to go POTA in, you might wait until September. You just have to get out there and do it, but with this kind of weather, you really hope for a quick activation.

You may have heard of pop-up shops, retail outlets that appear out of nowhere, make a fuss, and disappear in the blink of an eye. Well, this was a pop-up POTA activation, five minute setup, operate for 15 minutes, teardown in three.

Thanks hunters!

I signed with number 10, AB0CD, and was about to send QRT when WN5C snuck in for one more. A brief listen then “QRT de W6CSN.” When the calls are coming in steadily I hate to cut it short, but it really was just too cold and windy to hang around today.
