About

The inspiration for this blog comes from the many different activation reports that are posted along with the summit listings on https://sotadata.org.uk as well as by the stories told by other ham radio bloggers and content creators.

My home QTH has a very high noise floor which makes hearing on the HF bands very challenging. You can’t work ‘em if you can’t hear ‘em (except in the case of FT8). My solution to the noise problem is to take my radio station to the field. This is a good fit with my general enjoyment of the outdoor world.

I run QRP because the equipment is lighter and more transportable than your typical home station. Besides, I have always been attracted to the “less is more” philosophy when it comes to radio communication.

Because I run QRP, I also mainly use CW. Many of the disadvantages of QRP operation are countered by the remarkable efficiency of CW.

Parks On The Air and Summits On The Air offer activators great incentives to outdoor radio pursuits. And, my home territory of W6’Land has plenty of options for participating as an activator in both of these great programmes.

I hope you enjoy the activation reports on this blog, or at least find them in some way useful.
