Scenic POTA 3-Fer

Sometimes when doing a POTA activation, the scenery makes you stop and take a picture or two. This particular QTH is enclosed by three National Park POTA references:

  • Golden Gate National Recreation Area US-0647
  • Fort Point National Historic Park US-0819
  • Presidio of San Francisco US-7889
The QMX is a “go to” rig for CW POTA activations

The radio was connected to the Gabil GRA-7350T vertical on a mag-mount. This antenna setup lives in the trunk of the car for ready deployment.

The activation started on a rather quiet 20 meters. The calls didn’t come particularly fast, but it was steady enough to qualify the activation in just under 30 minutes.

QSOs on 20m and 17m.

Most of the QSOs came from the eastern half of the continent, save for Brian up in British Columbia.

Come summertime this spot will be enveloped in cold fog more often than not.

Enjoying the clear and mild weather while I can.

I may head out there this afternoon. Have you tried mounting your antenna on the parking lot railing? I’ve had alternating lunch with that sort of setup.

Not yet, but I’ve been tempted to clamp a 17ft whip to the railing. There are often excessive pedestrians milling around down there though.

You’ve been having a rough go with the solar this year. On my end, life has gotten busier so I’ve been doing far fewer activations than before. But I am happy to get you in the log whenever we can make the QSO.
